Snapshot

NetBox Labs is the commercial steward of NetBox, the open-source (Apache 2.0) network and infrastructure "source of truth" (~21.8k GitHub stars, nearly 400 contributors, "10,000+ organizations"). It sells NetBox Cloud (managed SaaS on AWS EKS), NetBox Enterprise (self-managed) and add-on products (Discovery/Orb, Diode, Assurance, Branching, Copilot, Asset Lifecycle, Validation, NDX, an MCP server), priced on the tools used and the size of the customer's infrastructure. In June 2026 it repositioned as an "infrastructure intelligence platform built for both humans and agents", and it now leans hard on AI data-center buildouts (NVIDIA, CoreWeave, neoclouds). It's a Series B startup, fully remote, about 125 to 150 people, with revenue in the single-digit millions (Aug 2025) and growing about 4x a year by the CEO's account.

Signals for a candidate

Green flags

  • It owns the de facto open-source standard in its niche. That's a real moat, and its OSS is healthy (21.8k stars, very active repos).
  • The founder has done this before: Beevers took NS1 to an IBM exit, and much of the NS1 leadership came with him.
  • Revenue was reported to grow about 4x in each of the last two years. Headcount is doubling yearly. Hiring more than doubled in 2026.
  • It's well placed for the AI data-center buildout (NVIDIA, CoreWeave, neoclouds), and it has a credible agent/MCP story grounded in its data.
  • Fully remote, with posted salary ranges and equity for everyone. Engineering is about half the company.

Red flags / risks

  • Revenue is still small (single-digit millions as of Aug 2025), and $55M has been raised in total. Runway depends on hitting the growth story, and the next raise is probably due in 2026–27.
  • The company is going from one product to many on both SaaS and on-prem. Job ads and reviews describe ambiguity, rework and systems "not fully formed".
  • There's built-in tension between open source and commercial: Core is Apache 2.0 and the "Community first" value constrains what can be monetized.
  • Positioning leans heavily on AI data centers, which exposes it to that capex cycle.
  • The Glassdoor sample is tiny and sales-heavy, so there's no real engineering-culture signal yet.

Questions to ask in interviews

  • Current ARR and growth, gross margin, runway in months, and when they plan to raise next.
  • Who is VP Engineering now, how many engineers are there today, and how are teams split across SaaS, on-prem, OSS core and observability?
  • How do they decide what goes into open-source NetBox versus the commercial products?
  • What share of revenue comes from AI and neocloud customers versus traditional enterprise?
  • What does "AI-native engineering" mean day to day: tools, review practices, and how it's measured?
  • Remote across the US and UK: core hours, how often offsites happen, and on-call expectations.
